Collaboration with the village of Vilar
In July 2022, the largest wildfire in Galicia’s history occurred in the Sierra del Courel, in the province of Lugo. Over the two weeks that the fire lasted, more than 11,000 hectares of forest and land were burned. One of the areas most affected by this fire was the village of Vilar, which was cut off by the flames and had to be evacuated. Many of its residents lost their homes and have been working ever since to restore their village. As part of the “Camiño Natural” project, we are collaborating with the residents of Vilar to improve the situation. We are involved in various activities with the local community to raise funds for a tree planting initiative to help restore the forest that was destroyed in the wildfires.
